The Student Marketplace in One VTU lets students sell and pass on study material and equipment to other students. It only works if people are honest and safe with each other. These Guidelines set out what is allowed, what is not, and how to report a problem.
These Guidelines form part of our Terms of Service. Breaking them can get a listing removed and an account suspended.
What you may list
Textbooks, reference books, lab manuals and printed notes
Lab coats, drawing boards, drafters, calculators, instrument boxes
Electronics and project components, kits, breadboards, sensors
Laptops, tablets and accessories you own
Anything else a student genuinely needs for their course
What is not allowed
Listings we remove on sight:
Anything illegal — drugs, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, prescription medicine, stolen goods
Academic dishonesty — leaked or embargoed question papers, answer scripts, assignment-writing or proxy-attendance services, sale of exam access, impersonation for a test
Pirated material — scanned copyrighted textbooks, cracked software, paid-course logins, shared subscription accounts
Sexual or adult content of any kind
Live animals, human remains, or biological material
Financial instruments — cash, gift cards, crypto, loans, investment schemes
Recruitment, MLM, or "earn from home" offers
Personal data of other people — contact lists, USN lists, mark sheets that are not yours
Anything that is not actually for sale — advertising, spam, promotion of other apps or services, repeated duplicate posts
Conduct that gets an account suspended:
Harassment, threats, stalking, or unwanted repeated contact after someone asks you to stop
Hate speech or slurs targeting caste, religion, region, gender, sexuality, disability or any protected characteristic
Sexual harassment, or sending explicit material to another user
Scamming — taking advance payment and not delivering, misrepresenting condition, bait pricing, fake screenshots
Posting another person phone number, address, photo or private information
Impersonating a student, a college, a faculty member or the university
Creating extra accounts to get around a suspension, or to farm referral credits
Writing a good listing
Use your own photos of the actual item, in good light. No stock images.
Be honest about condition — torn pages, missing parts, water damage, a dead battery. Say it upfront.
Price it clearly, in rupees, and say if it is negotiable.
Give the edition, scheme or semester for books, so a buyer knows it matches their course.
Only share contact details you are comfortable making public. Whatever you type in the contact field is visible to every user of the app.
Staying safe when you meet
Meet in a public place on campus — the library steps, the canteen, the main gate. Never at a private residence.
Bring a friend if the item is expensive.
Inspect before you pay. Open the book, switch the laptop on, check the calculator works.
Never pay in advance to someone you have not met. No UPI, no "booking amount", no "courier charges". Anyone insisting on advance payment is the single most common scam pattern.
Do not share OTPs, passwords, or bank details with a buyer or seller. Ever. No legitimate transaction needs them.
Trust your instinct. If a deal feels rushed or too good, walk away.
How to report something
If you see a listing or a user that breaks these Guidelines, report it. Use whichever is easiest:
Use the report form on this website — see below.
Email support@onevtu.in with the subject "Report".
Please include the listing title, the seller name or contact shown, and what is wrong. A screenshot helps.
What we do with a report
We review every report. Reports are read within 48 hours on working days.
Clear violations are removed immediately — illegal items, sexual content, leaked papers, and scam listings do not wait for a reply.
Borderline cases get a warning to the poster and a request to edit or remove.
Repeat or serious offenders have their listings removed and their account suspended or deleted.
We reply to you if you left an email address, once the report is resolved.
We act on reports at our discretion, and we may remove content that we judge unsafe or unlawful even if no one has reported it.
If you think we got it wrong
If your listing was removed or your account was suspended and you believe that was a mistake, email support@onevtu.in with the subject "Appeal" and the details. We will look at it again and reply.
Urgent safety
If you are in immediate danger, or someone has threatened you, contact your local police first. In India, dial 112. Then tell us, so we can remove the account and preserve what we hold.
