Track Your Semester

Attendance Tracker

Per-subject percentage, and how many classes you can still miss.

The 75% rule does not answer the question you actually have

VTU requires 75% attendance per subject to sit the exam. Knowing your percentage is not the same as knowing what to do about it. The useful question is always one of these two:

  • How many more classes can I miss and still be safe?
  • How many classes in a row do I need to attend to get back above the line?

Both are arithmetic, and both are the sort of arithmetic nobody wants to redo before every class. The tracker answers them per subject, updating as you mark attendance.

Marking a class takes one tap

Each subject keeps a dated log of present and absent marks rather than a running total. That matters for two reasons. You can fill in the past few weeks in a couple of minutes if you have been keeping track on paper. And a correction is a correction — fixing a mark you got wrong two weeks ago does not require unpicking everything entered since.

Subjects load automatically from your VTU profile, so your semester's list is already there the first time you open it. Electives are filtered to the ones you actually selected, which stops the odd situation of tracking attendance for a subject you are not enrolled in.

Your percentage, per subject and overall

Every subject gets its own percentage, and you get an overall figure across the semester. The threshold sits at VTU's 75% by default and is adjustable, because some colleges set their own bar and some subjects carry a different requirement.

Each subject also shows a trend line across the semester with the threshold drawn on it. A single percentage tells you where you are today; the trend tells you which way you are heading, which is the part that matters in the week before it becomes a problem.

If you added a subject by hand

A subject you add yourself can be renamed or removed freely. One that came from your VTU profile cannot be renamed, because it is tied to your actual registration — if a subject is wrong there, it is wrong in your profile rather than in your attendance.

Attendance is stored on your phone

Your attendance log stays on your device. Nothing about which classes you attended is sent anywhere, and the app has no way to report it to your college. It is a tool for you, not a register.

Mark a class present or absent in one tap. One VTU keeps the running percentage for every subject and does the maths you actually care about: how many more classes you can skip before you drop below the limit.

Attendance Tracker: common questions

How much attendance does VTU require?
75% per subject is the usual requirement, and that is the default in the tracker. It is adjustable, because colleges and individual subjects sometimes set a different bar.
How many classes can I miss and still be safe?
The tracker works it out per subject from your own attendance record and shows it directly — either how many more classes you can miss, or how many you need to attend in a row to get back above the threshold if you have already fallen below.
Does the app tell my college about my attendance?
No. Attendance is recorded and stored on your phone. Nothing about which classes you attended leaves the device, and the app has no connection to your college's system.
Can I fill in attendance for classes I have already attended?
Yes. Each subject keeps a dated log rather than a running total, so you can enter the past few weeks in one go and correct a mark from last month without disturbing anything recorded since.
