Syllabus & Scheme

The right syllabus for your scheme, branch and semester — no hunting.

Which syllabus applies to you

Three things decide it: your scheme, your branch, and which semester you are in. Get any one of them wrong and you will spend an evening studying modules that are not on your paper.

The app asks for those three once, stores them against your profile, and then shows you the subjects that actually belong to you. From there, each subject opens its own syllabus document.

First year is not branch-specific

In the first two semesters every branch studies largely the same subjects, split into two physics and chemistry cycles. The branch only starts to matter from the third semester onwards, when your core subjects begin.

This trips people up more often than you would expect, because students search for a first-year syllabus using their branch name and find documents that do not match what their college is teaching. If you are in first year, look under the cycle your college assigned you, not your branch.

From the syllabus to the reading list

A VTU syllabus document ends with a suggested learning resources block — the textbooks and reference books the course was designed around. It is usually several pages in, written in a dense format, and it is the part almost everyone skips.

The app reads that block out of your syllabus PDF and shows it as a proper reading list against the subject. You do not have to send the document anywhere to make this work; the PDF is downloaded and read on your phone.

If a syllabus has no reading list, the app says so. “This syllabus does not list any books” is a real answer, and a more useful one than an error message.

Keeping the document itself

The syllabus PDF opens inside the app, so you are not bouncing out to a browser, hunting for a download, and losing your place. If your college issues an amended syllabus mid-semester, the app follows the copy published for your scheme rather than a version saved months ago on a phone.

Pick your scheme once and One VTU shows only the subjects that actually apply to you, with the official syllabus for each one ready to open. Electives are handled properly, so you never scroll past six subjects you are not taking.

Syllabus & Scheme: common questions

Which VTU syllabus applies to me?
Three things decide it: your scheme, your branch and your semester. The app stores those against your profile and shows the subjects that belong to you, so you are not matching documents by eye.
Is the first year syllabus different for each branch?
Largely no. The first two semesters are mostly common across branches, split into a physics cycle and a chemistry cycle, and your branch only starts to change the subjects from the third semester. Look under your cycle rather than your branch for first-year subjects.
Where do I find the textbooks prescribed for a subject?
At the end of the syllabus document, in the suggested learning resources block. The app reads that block out of the syllabus PDF and shows it as a reading list against the subject, so you do not have to scroll through the document to find it.
Can I read the syllabus without leaving the app?
Yes. A subject's syllabus opens in the app rather than sending you out to a browser and a download folder.
